3 Instant Tips On How You Can Become More Confident As A Drum Starter

Confident drum starter tipps

Being confident as a drum starter is not always easy. I know, I know. There are many things you still need to master. And want to.

Also, what you’re playing sometimes doesn’t sound that good in your ears. Overall, you feel pretty insecure about what you’re doing around the drum kit.

How should you become more confident as a drum starter then? Don’t worry, it’s actually not a rocket science kind of task.

The 3 instant tips will help you become more confident from now on.

Let’s look into them, shall we? 🙂

Don’t compare yourself to others

Comparing yourself to others is sometimes hard to resist. We all do it now and then. However, we should be honest to ourselves:

Most of the time, it doesn’t do us a favor. The contrary likely is the case.

When you compare yourself to other drum starters, you either feel

  • better or worse.

I won’t lie to you: Both doesn’t help.

See it this way:

If you feel better when somebody is “not that good of a drummer as you”, you’re in a not so nice state of mind.

What happens if they suddenly “become better”? Yes, you feel this growing grieve inside your heart.

Drumming is not about being better or worse than anybody around you. It’s about having fun while expressing yourself with music.

Or at least that’s how I see it.

On the other hand, comparing yourself to others might make you feel inferior. That’s not helpful either. Not at all.

Remember that we all struggle.

Also, remember that everybody learns at his or her own tempo.

You don’t need to be a great musician from the start. Nobody was.

So don’t compare yourself to others to feel better or worse. It won’t be helpful in finding answers on how to be more confident as a drum starter.

However, you can and should look up to others as a role-model! Let other drummers inspire you with their story. This can be a great motivation for you.

Don’t let this chance slip pass you.

Learn your exercises properly to become more confident as a drum starter

What will make you become confident as a drum starter now and in the long-run? Getting your stuff together.

So learn what you have to learn properly. The more results you achieve, the easier it will be for you to reach new heights.

Remember the saying:

The first step is the most difficult?

I do. And this one’s so true.

But how can you learn your exercises properly? It may sound too simple, but it’s about practicing properly.

Also, a healthy mindset for drummers will do great work for you.

The same goes for a teacher.

Don’t get me wrong:

You can of course be a self-taught drummer. However, I simply can not recommend it. That’s because I always got the best drum lessons I could get for my money.

Simply, I don’t know if I’d be the female drummer I am today without my drum instructors.

They really helped my getting my stuff together. And that’s the instant tip for becoming more confident as a drum beginner now.

Get yourself a helpful practice routine

A helpful practice routine should

  • match your needs,
  • suit you as a person and
  • get you moving forward.

It’s also

  • motivating and
  • a challenge at the same time.

Practicing a music instrument is hard. If it’s not, you’re probably not practicing. Just playing around. That’s cool too, but will likely not help you achieve the results you want to claim as yours.

So make sure to get yourself a helpful practice routine now. It will make you more confident as a drum starter.

Why?

Because if you’ve committed yourself to follow it, learning to rock out on the drum kit becomes a good habits.

Good habits are freaking awesome on many levels. They can lift your confidence drastically. Don’t let this chance slip pass by.
